Biography/Research interests
Dominic Summers was appointed as an NIHR/NHSBT Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Surgery in October 2018. His research interests include increasing access to kidney transplantation by using ‘big data’ to improve understanding of the risk of using organs from ‘higher risk’ donors and improving transplant outcomes. In particular, this has focused on donation after circulatory death (DCD) kidney transplantation, and his work informed the current national DCD kidney allocation scheme. He has an interest in efficient clinical trial design and is a co-investigator on the PITHIA trial, a randomised-registry trial that is evaluating the use of pre-implantation kidney biopsies as a tool improve the evaluation of kidneys for transplantation.
