MPhil in Medical Science (Surgery)
One year of supervised laboratory-based research examined by thesis and oral. This is not a taught course. Applicants are typically science graduates and clinically qualified doctors undertaking scientific training. Research is in the areas of clinical transplantation, transplant immunology, orthopaedic, urology and vascular research and covers basic biology through to clinical therapies. PhD in Surgery
Three years of supervised laboratory-based research (five years part-time) examined by thesis and viva voce. PhD students are typically science graduates, medical students combining clinical training with the PhD, and clinically qualified doctors undertaking scientific training. Master of Surgery – MChir
An alternative to MPhil, MD and PhD, the Masters in Surgery is a research degree between 2-4 years part-time. The degree aims to allow engagement with research with a view to the writing of a thesis.
